How to Create a Zen Space in Your Home

When life gets a little busy or stressful, setting aside time to relax and unwind is essential. But with so many distractions — from family members and pets to errands and everyday technology, finding a quiet place in your home away from all those distractions can be pretty tricky! But you don’t have to suffer through the noise. Instead, check out these tips on how to create a relaxing space in your home!

Find the Right Space

When creating a relaxing space at home, the first thing to do is pick the right spot. Pick a location that can accommodate your zen activities, such as yoga, meditation, somewhere to draw or write, etc. It could be that guest room you never use, a spare closet with some room to move, or an underused living room. If you’re tight on room in your house, try designating a corner of your bedroom to be your zen space.

Add Zen Home Decor

Once you’ve got the right space picked out, it’s time to decorate! Add some decorative pillows, candles, comfy blankets, an oil diffuser or incense, or anything else that typically helps you relax! If you’ve got an entire bedroom to zen-ify, give it a fresh coat of paint and match your wall decor to the paint color for a relaxing, cohesive look. If you’re decorating a small space, go the extra mile with a small, luxurious area rug, big cushy pillows, and a canopy of lacey curtains for a feeling of privacy.

Set Boundaries for Your Space

It doesn’t help to create your perfect at-home zen space if everyone always messes it up! Once your perfect personal oasis is exactly how you like it, make sure to keep it that way by banning everyone else from using it. If your zen space is a room in your house, add a custom lock on the door that only you have the key to. If your zen space is in a more accessible location in the house, communicate to your other household residents how important it is that they not access your space. Even your significant other!

Set Time Aside to Use It

The most important part of having a zen space in your home is actually using it! Life can get busy, and before you know it, you haven’t set foot in your zen space in weeks! Instead, try booking times in your schedule to use it like you would do for other things like appointments, meetings, and work events. Mark it on your calendar or set a reminder in your phone to spend time in your space. Notify anyone who could potentially disrupt you so that you can get the most from your meditation time.

Your at-home zen space is the perfect place to catch up on the things you love the most! Whether you’re working on writing a novel, perfecting your skincare routine, or just want some peace and quiet to binge-watch the new season of your favorite show, your zen space is the place to do it all.

If you’re unsure how to use your zen space, try learning a new skill, like painting! We recently launched a brand new event type, our Zen Collection, which combines the therapeutic benefits of painting with soothing music and calming art choices! You’ll relax while painting AND have the perfect Zen-inspired artwork for your new space! Can’t make it in to a studio for an event? No problem.
